Crestfield Sponsored Retreats
A few years ago, Erica, a former member of our summer staff, came brimming with a question: What is God’s purpose for my time at Crestfield? Standing at the threshold of that summer season, Erica wondered how the Lord might be working through her and the ways in which the Lord was working through the children she would encounter at camp. The desire to know her purpose shaped her prayer life. While the Lord did not immediately answer her request, throughout the summer months Erica experienced the transformation and renewal that only Jesus can bring. And she was not the only one.
During the second week of camp a young camper came to Erica. She was wrestling with her faith, drifting from the God whom she loved and looked upon Erica as a trusted person to confide in. Over the course of that week, Erica became a prayer partner for that young camper. But that praying relationship did not end once the week was over. Erica continued to pray for the young camper throughout the rest of the summer. On the last week of camp, the young camper returned to Crestfield and shared with Erica the ways in which her trust in the Lord had been strengthened and her relationship with God renewed.
Reflecting on that experience, Erica wrote, “God transformed me because he revealed to me what my work was at Crestfield. I was amazed how God used camp as a place where teenagers and younger children could open up and talk to people about what’s going on in their lives.” Two lives were changed that summer: the young camper and Erica’s, for Erica also discovered the purpose of God’s call for her life that summer: to be a person who listens—who really listens. And by that act she became a vehicle for the Holy Spirit.
Beautiful moments happen at Crestfield—some expected while others unexpected. High ropes, climbing walls, clay pits, and archery are all wonderful elements in summer camp but they are not the foundational moments that shape the faith-lives of God’s people. It’s the opportunities for worship and wonder, connection and community that happen when we are encountered by the living Lord Jesus. Transformation and renewal in the name of Jesus happen at Crestfield. Both Erica and that young camper were transformed by our God because of the generous gifts of congregations and individuals.
This #GivingTuesday, would you consider making a gift to support the mission and ministry of Crestfield. We rely on the generosity of many so that we may be a place of transformation and renewal. Any amount, $10, $25, $50, $100 is an investment in shaping the faith lives of every person who comes to the camp. Will you consider joining us in partnership?
